Franbold Took and Maya Baggins married in a beautiful spring season, about 30 years ago. They settled in Hobbiton, in a nice little hole that had been in the family for hundreds of years, usually being occupied by young couples until their first child arrived and a larger place was in order.
When Maya and Franbold's first child was born, they had some difficulty in finding larger housing, so the little boy slept in the same room as his parents for some time (that may be one reason for the strong social attitude he would show later in life). Another task that proved somewhat difficult was to choose a name for the child. All his uncles, as well as both granddads, were hoping he would be named after them, so in order to prevent shame and scandal in the family, Maya came up with a name that, for some reason or other, had been in her mind for some time already. Franbold had his doubts about the name Hyrondic, but as he could not come up with a better alternative, they decided to stick with it.
Hyrondic was a stout little fellow who loved food (the richer the better), but he also loved to walk around in the woods and fields. On these long walks he began to notice thickets of valuable trees, and he started to collect information on them for his mother, who was a carpenter. In addition, he was able to supply his father, who did the cooking at home, with fresh meat from animals he hunted on his trips. There was one problem though with hunting: Franbold was left with the animals' hides after procuring the meat, and he asked Hyrondic if he had a way of getting rid of them. After some asking around, Hyrondic had the solution: he was hired as a part-time apprentice by a tailor who regularly needed hides for the armour he made. The tailor's customers got to know him as a cheerful, friendly lad, and he was liked by all.
Even though Maya and Franbold had succeeded in getting a larger house when Hyrondic was still a little boy, it was getting about time for him to move out when he celebrated his 25th birthday. Still young for a hobbit, of course, but he did not want to be a burden to his parents for too long.
With his love of woods and fields, it is not surprising that he chose to be a bounder for a start. His knowledge of timber, hides and tailoring was a valuable asset for a bounder, and as a token of trust he was asked to add prospecting to his duties as well; he did not mind that at all as it was yet another occupation that took him outside.
Of course, there was also the issue of specialization as a bounder: hunter -- nah, too narrow; champion -- no, too aggressive; burglar -- what, I'm too heavy for that; oh wait, I think I am resilient enough, and certainly social enough, to become a guardian. And that is what he became.
For the last several years he has now been exploring the duties of a guardian, and slowly but surely he is making progress; however, now at level 35 he watches with awe all those level 80 and higher comrades, and he wonders if he will ever reach those heights!
